On the academic front, the first-ever super-specialty training course in Endocrinology (DNB in Endocrinology) in South India was initiated and later evolved into a DM in Endocrinology in 2011. The number of seats for the DM course in Endocrinology at CMC, Vellore, was increased from two to five. Other academic programs conducted by the department include a full-time Fellowship Program in Diabetes for doctors, a Distance Fellowship in Diabetes (DFID), a short course for Diabetes Counsellors, and a Training Program for Doctors and nurses who wish to enhance their skills in foot care for patients with diabetes. The Diabetes Educator Training Programme was first conceptualized and is being conducted by this department to offer comprehensive training in diabetes counselling and management for nurses. The department also trains staff from several other mission hospitals to promote awareness and prevention of diabetes at the community level.
The Intensive Training Program for Secondary Care Doctors in Diabetes Mellitus includes comprehensive theoretical and practical sessions conducted over 6 days, followed by an assessment. The training will be held at Christian Medical College, Vellore.

The Global Diabetes Foot Training is a hybrid program with two phases:
A one-year blended-learning program designed for physicians and family practitioners to advance their expertise in diabetes care. Participants complete 25 interactive modules and benefit from online learning combined with on-site training at Christian Medical College, Vellore.
